Practice TOEIC® Tests

The Test of English for International Communication® is a test of one’s ability to comprehend the English language, especially as it is used in international business contexts. Two decades after its development, the TOEIC® test has more than three million candidates worldwide. Most large international companies rely on TOEIC® test to assess the English language proficiency of their employees. The test is also used for language training audits and determining the level of English required for a certain position. It is becoming commonplace to see a TOEIC® test score included in job descriptions for positions with multinational companies such as Coca-Cola, Renault, Sony, NEC, Nestle, and dozens of others. The TOEIC® test is also used around the world by business and engineering schools, technical colleges, private language schools, and government organizations.

The TOEIC® test is a 2-hour, paper-and-pencil, multiple-choice test that consists of 200 questions divided into two separately timed sections:

  • Listening: 100 questions administered by audiocassette. Consists of four parts: Part I-Photographs, Part II-Question-Response, Part II-Short Conversations, and Part IV-Short Talks.
  • Reading: 100 questions divided into three parts: Part V-Sentence Completion, Part VI-Error Identification, and Part VII-Reading Comprehension.

Each candidate is given a separate mark for written and aural comprehension on a scale from 5 to 495 points. The total score is between 10 and 990 points. Minimum scores necessary for employment and admittance into educational programs vary, but as a point of reference most universities in North America will not accept applicants with scores lower than 730 (which is approximately 550 on the paper-based TOEFL® test).

We offer you the convenience of free online practice tests that accurately replicate the standard paper-and-pencil version. Test-takers receive their scores by e-mail. As an added bonus, a detailed answer key that explains why a particular answer choice is correct or incorrect is accessible at the end of the test. This information enables test-takers to determine specific areas of weakness in which they may need additional help. The online tests were created by a team of professional ESL teachers and web designers, and have received extremely positive feedback from users since their inception in late 2003.
